Rating: - Lacked the excitement I was hoping for
I love the Sookie Stackhouse novels and wanted to try out some of Charlaine's other work. There wasn't anything really wrong with this book. I liked the main character -- kinda. The story was suspenseful -- kinda. Charlaine's humor and cleverness were there -- kinda. You get the idea. All of those things I love about The Southern Vampire Series were just not fully apparent. I don't find myself compelled to read the other books in this series. My sister, however, likes the Sookie Stackhouse ... Read More
Rating: - A pleasant surprise
Lily isn't as immediately likable as Sookie or Harper, but she's a great step up from Roe, who seems to have very little personality at all. I'm not a great fan of non-paranormal mysteries, but I'm glad I decided to give this series a chance. You're given just enough information to start trying to figure it out on your own, something I found seriously lacking in the Teagarden series. Rating: - Eh!
I am a huge fan of the Sookie Stackhouse books as well as the Harper Conelly series. I had a harder time getting sucked into the Lily Bard books, another Sookie series it is not, but I did enjoy how Charlaine Harris draws out the story. I can't say this is a book I will pass on but if you are a Harris fan it's worth the read.

After reading two Aurora Teagarden Mysteries, this book is pretty good. However, in comparison to the Southern Vampire Series and the Harper Conelly Mysteries, not so much. I know that I tend to lean to the supernatural side of fiction, but I have enjoyed plenty of books that are about plain, old, every day life.
I like many of the characters in this book, but I find it hard to actually like Lily Bard. It's hard to even feel sorry for her, because she is SO tough. I respect the fact that she changed ... Read More
Rating: - Fan of C Harris but never read the Lily Bard series before
I'd become a fan of Charlaine Harris since her first Southern Vampire book came out and was curious about her other series. Buying the used version was a great inexpensive idea to try them out and see if I wanted to read the rest.
I finished Shakespeare's Landlord in a few hours and it was like eating potato chips - I needed the next one now! I've ordered the whole series, and as they arrive, each and every one has been a delight so far. Lily is very human and vulnerable and feels like she could be a ... Read More
